An Indian Prairie Public Library Membership Card is available to district residents and owners of property and businesses in the library district. Membership is also available for a fee to people who don’t live in the district and don’t pay taxes to another library.
The library is a separate taxing body and district residents, property owners, and businesses pay taxes to directly support the library. The library district includes most of Darien and Willowbrook, part of Burr Ridge, and some unincorporated areas. This map shows the library district boundaries for DuPage County. For Cook County, only residents living in the Burr Ridge Village Center are in the library district.
Membership entitles the cardholder to all services provided by the library including programs, classes, reserves, interlibrary loans, and computer reservations. The card may also be used to check out materials at most public libraries in Illinois. Membership cards are available at the Checkout and Card Services Desk. If you have any questions, staff would be happy to assist you at 630/887-8760.
District residents may obtain a card by showing one form of identification with current address, such as
- Driver’s license or state ID
- A current utility bill, bank statement, pre-printed checks mortgage, or lease with your name and current address
- A piece of first-class mail with your name and a current postmark.
Individuals under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present to sign for the card. The card is good for three years and may be renewed by showing identification as stated above.
District Property and Business Owners
If you own property in the district, but do not live in the district, you are entitled to a library membership card. Simply bring in a recent tax bill and library cards, valid for three years, will be issued to all residents in your household.
If your business (including municipalities, schools, and churches) is located in the district, you can receive a one-year business membership card by showing proof of the business location. The president, owner, or CEO of the business or the principal of the school must sign the application.
If your home is outside of the library’s district boundaries and you don’t pay taxes to another library, you may purchase an Indian Prairie Public Library Non-Resident Membership Card. The fee is based on the average amount of taxes paid per household to support the library. The fee allows all members of the household to receive a library card and is good for one year. Each July 1, the nonresident fee is recalculated. Cardholders receive full privileges at Indian Prairie and may also use the card to check out materials at most libraries in Illinois. The fee is currently $192.00. For renewal information, click here.
Please note that individuals are responsible for materials checked out on their card. If your card is lost, report it immediately by calling 630/887-8760. There is a $2 replacement cost.
