Traveling over spring break? Take IPPL with you! Borrow books, movies, music, magazines, and more on the go with our eLibrary.
Thanks to a donation from the IPPL Foundation, the library has purchased 14 Playaway Launchpads for kids. The learning tablets are pre-loaded with STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and language apps. They are available in our Kids & Teens department and can be checked out for two weeks.
Does your business hire teen employees or interns? The library is hosting its 2nd annual Teen Job Fair this spring, and we are looking for local employers interested in participating. The fair, for teens seeking employment, internships, and/or volunteer opportunities, will take place Saturday, April 9, 1-3:30 p.m. at the library.
If your business would like to participate, please fill out the online form by Tuesday, April 5. Businesses that apply by Monday, Feb. 29 will be included in all event promotions. There is no fee to participate, but space is limited so tables are first come, first served.
The event is co-hosted by the Darien Chamber of Commerce and Willowbrook/Burr Ridge Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will provide free tax assistance to seniors and low-to-moderate income taxpayers at the library on Monday and Friday mornings starting Feb. 12 and running through mid-April. Appointments must be made by calling 630/887-8760 ext. 239 or in person at the Adult Ask Us Desk.
The library will also have a limited number of paper tax forms (with instructions) for distribution. Federal forms include 1040, 1040A, and 1040 EZ. Illinois forms include IL 1040 and Schedule ICR. Staff at the Ask Us Desk will print other forms for patrons. The first 10 pages are free, and additional pages are 10 cents per page. The second copy of any form will also cost 10 cents per page.
For those preparing their own returns, we have the latest tax preparation books, as well as instructions on how to order any necessary forms.
Congratulations to Trustee Marian Krupicka for being selected Darien’s 2016 Citizen of the Year!
Marian’s contributions to the Darien community are numerous, including 30 years of teaching in Darien schools, 20 years of serving on the library board, participating as a long-time member of the Darien Woman’s Club, and being active in her church. She was even one of the original volunteers that helped to start the Darien Library in the 1970s!
The City of Darien will host a Coffee & Cake Reception in Marian’s honor on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. at Darien City Hall, 1702 Plainfield Rd.
In addition, the Citizen of the Year banquet will take place Saturday, March 5, at Alpine Banquets, 8230 S. Cass Ave. Tickets are $30 each and can be purchased at Darien City Hall after Feb. 1.
