Planning your garden? Get the seeds you need from our Seed Library!
Our Seed Library is a collection of seeds that cardholders can check out to plant and grow at home. There is no charge and no obligation to return the seeds. IPPL cardholders can check out two seed packets per visit, and each packet contains enough seeds to grow 3-5 plants.
The Seed Library is located at the entrance to the Kids & Teens Department on the second floor, but seeds are available to cardholders of all ages – and gardening skill levels!
Celebrate by planting a garden! Check out the vegetable gardening books at the library. Also, on Saturday, June 2 from 10am to 2pm, the Darien Park District Garden Club will be selling locally grown plants outside the library. Choose from vegetables, herbs, perennials, and annuals.
It’s also the start of the season for farmers markets. On Thursdays from 10am to 2pm (from June 14 to September 13), you can visit the Burr Ridge Market on the Green in the Burr Ridge Village Center. Find other local markets in DuPage County on the Illinois Department of Agriculture website.
For ideas on how to prepare meals with your fresh fruits and vegetables, check out our cookbooks — we’ve got sections specifically on fruits and vegetables.
I walked by our current magazine display and the cover of the August issue of Southern Living stopped me in my tracks. A lucious looking lemon pie graces the cover, and just seems so perfect for a wonderful summer dessert. Visit upstairs and take a look at an issue of Southern Living or one of our other home and garden or cooking magazines.
