Cool Compositions Contests
Grades 7-12
Oct. 1 - Oct. 29 Calling all writers! Submit your original short story, poem or song lyrics and win cash prizes for first through third place in each category in the seventh annual Cool Compositions Contest. Entry forms available online and in person at the Kids & Teens Ask Us Desk starting Oct. 1; deadline is Mon., Oct. 29.
Poetry Contest Submit your original poetry -- any form is welcome! Just be creative and have fun. Words must be your own. Teens may submit a maximum of three poems.
Short Story Contest Submit a short story between 2,000 and 6,000 words. Entries must be typed and double spaced. Words must be your own. Teens may submit a maximum of three short stories.
Song Lyrics Contest Submit your original song lyrics - any genre is welcome. Songs must have verses and a chorus. Teens may submit a maximum of three songs.
Grades 7-12
Wed. Oct. 24 and Thurs. Oct. 25 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Local Singer/Song-writer Andrew Salgado will lead this two-night workshop for aspiring song-writers. Bring your lyrics and ideas. Register online or call Kids and Teens at ext. 264.
Thurs. Nov. 8, 7:00 p.m. Jay Asher, the #1 New York Times bestselling novel Thirteen Reasons Why, and The Future of Us (co-authored by Carolyn Mackler) will speak about his writing and sign books. Books will be available for purchase courtesy of the Friends of the Library. Cool Compositions prizes will be awarded. Register online or call Kids and Teens at ext. 264.
