Photos (courtesy Darien Historical Society) capture the beauty and undeveloped setting of the Marian Hills Seminary building and farmland from the early 1970s. The Seminary building stood where Stanhope Square now exists in Willowbrook. Many older Parishioners of St. Mary's Parish (now Our Lady of Peace) have described the beautiful tree-lined driveway to the Seminary where services were held before Our Lady of Peace school/church was built. Annual Victorian Christmas at the Vial House

Flagg Creek Heritage Society will offer its annual Victorian Christmas at the Robert Vial House on Sunday, December 2 from 2 to 4 p.m. Docents dressed in costume will be available during the open house. Start the holiday season off with a local tradition and join the Tree Lighting ceremony at Old Lace Schoolhouse & Museum on Sunday, December 2, at 4 p.m. Before the tree lighting ceremony, visit the museum from from 1 to 3 p.m. Free hot chocolate and cookies will be available at Lace Elementary School, the Eisenhower Junior High School chorus will sing holiday songs, and Santa will be available to listen to your wish list!

Civil War Commemoration at Lyonsville Cemetery

The Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War and the Flagg Creek Heritage Society invite you to the Lyonsville Cemetery for a Civil War Commemoration on Saturday, September 8 at 2:00 p.m. The Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War will dedicate the gravestones that they recently installed in honor of the Civil War Soldiers who enlisted from the Lyonsville Congregational United Church of Christ. Learn more about the important role that the Lyonsville Congregational United Church of Christ played in the U.S. Civil War, and read the poignant letters of Hiram McClintock, member of the Illinois 127th Regiment wrote to Sarah North which are part of the Flagg Creek Heritage Society's collection. The Darien Historical Society invites members and the public to its annual Ice Cream Social on Wednesday evening June 20th at the Darien Community Park's South Pavilion. Enjoy pre-concert refreshments of lemonade, cookies, and ice cream starting at 6:00 p.m. Then settle back to relax and listen to the music of the Chi-Town Showstoppers at 7:00 p.m.
