Darien’s Independence Day Parade

Posted on June 24, 2010

Independence Day Parade, July 4, 1975Everyone loves a parade--don't miss the annual Independence Day Parade sponsored by the Lion's Club. The parade will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2010 starting at 9:30 a.m. at Hinsdale South High School.

Watching a parade on a July day is thirsty business. Be sure to stop by the Old Lace School Museum's parking lot at 75th & Cass Avenue for free lemonade provided by the Darien Historical Society. Check out the Flickr page to view some photos of the parade from 1968 and 1977.

Welcome to IPPL’s Local History Blog

Posted on June 1, 2010

Welcome to IPPL's Local History blog. Darien, Willowbrook and Burr Ridge have unique and interesting histories. We hope this blog will be a place for residents to share their memories and stories of our communities. To view each community's history page use the tabs at the top of the page or click on the links on the right side. View Darien's history page to learn more about the Old Lace School Museum and the Darien Historical Society. Visit the Willowbrook page to see the events that the Village has planned to celebrate its 50th Anniversary. Go to the Burr Ridge page to learn more about its history and the Flagg Creek Heritage Society.

A picture is worth a thousand words, so we have also started a local history collection on Flickr. Dust off your scrapbooks and photo collections to look for historic photos of our communities--especially of the farms, early families, churches, and schools. The library would like to scan the photos to add to the local history collection on Flickr. Be sure to check this Welcome page often to discover the new content we have added to the blog or Flickr account.

If you have any photos you would allow us to scan, contact Mary Krekelberg at maryk@ippl.info or call the reference desk at 630-887-8760, ext. 240.
