Code of a Killer (2015)

I loved Code of a Killer. Told in three parts, it follows a serial killer who was killing young teenage girls. And you didn’t see who did it, but the way they showed different people, you formed suspicions.

We also learn about Dr. Alec Jeffreys, whose DNA studies were not going well. When a woman asked him to prove her son was her biological child to prevent his deportation, his test actually worked. At the same time, the police were not getting anywhere with solving the murder. When the killer struck again, someone suggested that Jeffreys could help.

Based on the true story of how the police started using DNA to catch killers, Code of a Killer is a very intense, fast paced mystery.

Dan in Real Life

Dan in Real Life (2007) PG-13
A great family movie. I loved Dan but was frustrated with him. He’s raising teenage daughters alone after his wife dies. He writes about family issues / relationships, but has trouble relating to his own girls and all women in general.

He’s afraid. Everything he does seemed to fail, including raising his daughters. His girls don’t like his parenting decisions (like what teenager does). His own family sees him the same way his kids do – not as a failure, but flawed. His parents and siblings take him for granted. He seems to always be competing with his brothers — even the girl he likes turns out to be his brother’s girlfriend (although he didn’t know it at the time). Dan’s chance at love is shattered. I suppose the situation reflected on what he always thought about himself: that he was a loser.
