The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King [original motion picture soundtrack] (2003)

Another great soundtrack by Howard Shore! The music is very suspenseful and I am usually able to imagine what scenes are playing during each song. I enjoyed listening to this CD when I was in the middle of writing my short story. It gives me a lot of energy and it’s very entertaining.

My favorite song from The Return of the King is probably “The Grey Havens.” It’s the last song during the film, and I think it was a great way to end it.

If you missed last month’s review of The Two Towers soundtrack, read it now.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers [original motion picture soundtrack] (2002)

I love listening to soundtracks from different films, and The Lord of the Rings movies have some of the best soundtracks. My favorite from The Two Towers is probably “Evenstar.” I can listen to it all the time.

Check back next month for my thoughts on The Return of the King soundtrack.

Did you know? You can see what soundtracks we’ve added to the collection recently.

The Jersey Boys [original Broadway cast recording] (2005)
For those of us who remember the Four Seasons, this is a wonderful and delightful trip back to memory lane. The Four Seasons were inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1990) and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame (1999). And if you want to hear the music of Jersey Boys live, check out the musical that’s still downtown at the Bank of America Theatre. Over the weekend, the Tribune rated the new cast.

Jersey Boys [original Broadway cast recording] (2005)
Music from the Broadway hit takes the listener back to the 1960s and the singing sensations Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons. The musical tells the story of working class kids who rose to superstars in the entertainment world. The CD has all the hits, including “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk like a Man,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You,” and more. Their story is told, their music celebrated. If you remember the ‘60’s, don’t miss this CD.

To hear the music live, check out Jersey Boys, currently playing at the LaSalle Bank Theatre in Chicago. Visit Broadway in Chicago for a preview of the show, ticket information, and more.

Love Me or Leave Me

Love Me or Leave Me by Doris Day (1955)
Doris Day played real life 1920s singer Ruth Etting in the movie of the same name. Here she performs great songs from the early decades of the twentieth century. Songs include the upbeat “Stay on the Right Side Sister” and “Shaking the Blues Away” and lovely ballads such as “I’ll Never Stop Loving You” and “Love Me or Leave Me.” You can also check out the original movie with Day and James Cagney. Find out Doris Day is more than just “Que Sera Sera.”
