Summer Reading 2012

May 21 - August 11, 2012

For IPPL cardholders and students in grades 7–12 attending schools in IPPL’s district. Register online starting May 21, and track your reading to win rewards for every three books you read and review. Your online registration page will alert you each time you reach a reward level. Come into the library to pick up your prizes.

  • When you sign up, you will receive a Brunswick Zone bowling pass good for all summer and one 2012 ticket voucher for a DuPage County Hounds baseball game.
  • After reading and reviewing 3 books, you will receive a packet of coupons to area businesses.
  • After reading and reviewing 6 books, you can pick a paperback book of your choice.
  • For every 3 additional books you read and review, you will recieve raffle tickets for our grand prize raffle.

Register before June 9 and get an entry to the Early Bird Drawing for a book of your choice from your school’s summer reading list.

R U GAME? - Open Gaming

Fri., May 25, 6:30–8:45 p.m.
Join us as we unleash a Wii, Xbox 360 and board games. We've got NBA 2K12 and Super Smash Bros. Drop in.

Masquerade Mask

Wed., June 13, 1–4 p.m.
Make a masquerade mask that can be worn to the after-hours “Macabre Masquerade” on June 30. We’ll supply masks and embellishments. Register starting May 30.

Girls Night Out

Wed., June 20, 5–8:45 p.m.
Make your own all-natural face mask and flavored lip gloss from pantry ingredients that we’ll supply. Bring a favorite nail polish for manicures while we watch The Nanny Diaries (PG-13). Snacks provided. Register starting June 6.

Macabre Masquerade

Sat., June 30, 6:30–8:30 p.m.
Join the cast of this interactive murder mystery, adapted by TAB members. (Pick a character at the Kids & Teens Desk.) Masks and costumes encouraged, but not required. Register starting June 15.

Book to the Big Screen - I Am Number Four (PG-13)

Thurs., July 5, 6–8:45 p.m.
This teen action scifi film is based on the book written by Pittacus Lore. Pop and fresh popcorn provided. Drop in.

Practice ACT (For students grades 9–12.)

Fri., July 13, 9:30 a.m.–1 p.m.
This free practice test will be scored by Kaplan and returned with individual, personally analyzed results. Identify your strengths and weaknesses before the real thing! Register starting June 15.

Hunger Games Trials

Wed., July 18, 2:30–4:30 p.m.
Become a tribute and see how well you survive our Jeopardy-style game. Two tributes will represent IPPL at the inter-library arena games to be held on Wed., Aug. 1 at Brunswick Zone XL in Homewood. Register starting July 3.

R U GAME? - Magic the Gathering

Fri., July 27, 6:30–8:45 p.m.
Bring your decks and test your skills against other teens. Staffers from Hotsauce Games will provide basic instruction and guidance. All skill levels are invited. Register starting July 13.

Mock PSAT (For students grades 10–12.)

Fri., Aug., 3, 10 am–12:30 p.m.
This free practice test will be scored by Kaplan and returned with individual, personally analyzed results. Identify your strengths and weaknesses in time for the real thing! Register starting July 6.

Book to the Big Screen - Alice in Wonderland (PG)

Thurs., Aug. 9, 6:30–8:45 p.m.
This 2010 fantasy adventure film was inspired by Lewis Carroll’s 1865 novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Starring Johnny Depp, directed by Tim Burton.
