Computers & Internet
There is free high speed WiFi throughout the library, which should automatically be detected by your computer. Questions? Stop at the Computer Help Desk.
Computers for Adults
IPPL cardholders can use a desktop or laptop for up to 90 minutes each day; reserve a computer by calling 630/887-8760 ext. 238. We offer Internet access and Microsoft Office 2010 products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher. We have guest computers for people without IPPL cards, and walkup Internet stations for quick 20-minute sessions.
Computers for Kids & Teens
A variety of options are available for IPPL cardholders including iPads, desktops, laptops, netbooks, and an iMac. The child-friendly computers in the Family Center do not require an IPPL card.
The Internet is an essential tool for doing research. To meet the information needs of our youth, the library feels it is important to provide them with Internet access. However, the library recognizes that it is ultimately the parents' responsibility to determine when their minor children are ready for unrestricted Internet access. To aid parents in doing this, the library provides them the option to block library Internet access for their minor children. This does not block the minor's access to the library's resource databases or the educational games on our computers.
To block Internet access for a child or teen, a parent or guardian must complete and submit an authorization form. The form is available online and at the Checkout Desk. A separate form must be completed for each child.
