I primarily read fiction, and love getting drawn in to a character’s story. I enjoy both contemporary and historical novels (especially those that have strands of both such as The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes). I appreciate witty and quirky dialogue or characters and fast-paced stories that quickly engage my attention. I particularly enjoy WWII tales (Elizabeth Wein’s Code Name Verity), mysteries, and romance. Series hold a special place in my heart, especially Julia Quinn’s Bridgertons, Lauren Willig’s Pink Carnation Spies, and Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ Chicago Stars. As for nonfiction, I'm partial to stories that weave a personal story into history (Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand and The Girls of Atomic City by Denise Kiernan).
As the leader of our GenLit Book Group, I'm always on the hunt for discussion-worthy titles that appeal to 20 & 30-somethings.
I enjoy watching lighthearted, feel-good tales, particularly romantic comedies, action-adventure films, sports dramas, and the occasional suspense movie (as long as it’s not too scary). Favorites include Argo, The American President, The Blind Side, Father of the Bride, Fever Pitch, The Proposal, Remember the Titans, and Love, Actually. I get invested in the lives of characters and appreciate snappy dialogue, so favorite TV shows include Bones, Chuck, Friends, and Sports Night. And I often revisit the engaging characters and fantastical story line of the eight Harry Potter films.
