Earth Day 2020

There's no better time to celebrate our planet than while we're welcoming this warm spring weather. Earth Day is Wednesday, April 22nd, and while it will look and feel different than our past observations, there are still ways to celebrate on our own.

One easy thing you can do is get outside. Though we can't gather, we can still find a porch, yard, or path and get some fresh air. Do you have a garden? Now is the perfect time to work on it. My favorite way to spend time these days is by reading out in the sun. It's a great way to relax in the afternoon.

If you want to get more involved, look at more sustainable ways of shopping. Greener Gadgets has information on how to buy more eco-friendly goods and how to live more sustainably. This is a great resource for anyone trying to lower the amount of waste they produce.

Do you know how to recycle electronics? Check out DuPage County's recycling resources. They have information on free recycling events, recycling locations, and how to recycle different goods. Learning how to recycle your old devices is a great way to keep batteries out of landfills.

Last but certainly not least, continue to support libraries. Are you buying books you'll only read once? Why not check it out at the library? While we're closed, we're offering digital services including access to ebooks and audiobooks. Check out Overdrive and Hoopla to see all of our titles.

Earth Day is about protecting and appreciating the beauty around us. Let's all try to take a few moments to reflect on the little things we can be grateful for.
